Valentine’s Day Special: The Gift of Self-Love

This is our special Valentine’s Day edition and we have a special guest called Tatiana Patricia. This is a special edition because it’s all about self-love. There are two relationships that are the most important. That’s the one you have with your maker and the one you have with yourself. It’s important that you grow in Self-Love, so that you can live according to the standard God has called you to.

For those who don’t know you? Who is Tatiana?

Fearless, Boldness, confidence, Child of God, that's how I would describe myself. Other than that, I am the founder of HerPurpose CIC and an outspoken advocate for women's empowerment. I've dedicated my life to supporting young females in discovering their goals. I provide counseling, empowerment advice and talks, and inspiration through my platform. My goal is to, create a sisterhood network in which women can push themselves beyond their comfort zones.

This is the Valentine’s edition called the self-love edition. What does self-love mean to you?

Self-love for me means fully accepting myself and seeing myself as God sees me, regardless of the circumstances. Part of loving myself is finding out who God wants me to be and aspiring to become that person. Also knowing your identity in Christ asking God to show who you are in him.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”- 2 Corinthians 5:17

When you love yourself, you have a generally good attitude towards yourself. This does not mean that you are constantly optimistic about yourself. Is treating yourself with care, respect, and nurturing so that you can become your best self. Furthermore, self-love includes the act of forgiveness.

Why is important to love yourself and how has your faith helped you do that?

Learning to love ALL of yourself is difficult, however having a successful faith life starts with learning to love yourself. God does not want us to go through our lives filled with hate, disappointment, or insecurities about ourselves. God has created us perfectly in His image. In this day and age, it is difficult not to compare ourselves to others or the idea of what we should look like. God designed you and made you perfectly the way you are.

I love this scripture so much “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.” ~ Psalm 139: 13-15

What are the steps to growing in self-love?

Trusting the process and giving it all to God. I love this scripture Proverbs 3:5-6; “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.“

What are the greatest barriers to self-love?

I'd say... comparison, people-pleasing, and lack of boundaries.

Whether you’re just starting on your self-love journey or have been doing it for years, being able to identify the obstacles to practicing self-love is important.

You’ve started the community called Her Purpose. Tell us a bit about it and the inspiration behind it. Any final advice and thoughts?

Our Herpurpose is a Christian sisterhood community that offers a safe space for young women striving to reach their full potential. With the belief that words can change everything, your voice matters and spaces like Herpurpose provide an opportunity to females know that we hear, see, and value what they say.

Herpurpose is inspired by “sisterhood,” and being the only girl sibling made it difficult to rise to positions where I could be heard or noticed. So, as I grew older, I wanted to be someone’s sister and make them feel valued and heard. As a result of this, I focused on being a sister to myself and truly knowing my own needs before anything.
